Campbell Town, in Tasmania 's midlands, could soon be home to a multi-million dollar state-of-the-art service station. Caltas, the Caltex Distributor in Northern Tasmania, has submitted development plans to the Northern Midlands Council for the demolition of the existing service station and in its place, construction of a modern fuel outlet, convenience store and restaurant. “This is good news for Campbell Town, good news for motorists and good news for Tasmania 's economy,” Caltas CEO Mr. Philip Molineux said. It’s hoped the development will be finished by the end of the year and when complete will provide a number of advantages to the Campbell Town community and motorists travelling the Midland Highway. The project will see the Caltas current operation make way for a major service outlet providing a six lane multi pump fuel offer and convenience store which will also provide a full range of Caltex products and Premium fuels along with a restaurant style food outlet designed to take advantage of the adjoining park. Mr. Molineux said “planning for the redevelopment included options for fuel supplies in the town to continue to be available to the local community and the travelling public, although at an alternate site within the town. Adequate signage at key entry points will be provided and residents will be kept informed of all issues during the construction phase by regular bulletins in the local newspapers. It is inevitable that some disruptions to supply will occur but our aim is to achieve a seamless transition from the old to a new facility in keeping with Campbell Town 's reputation as the place on the Midlands Highway to stop, shop and browse” he said. “When complete the Caltex outlet in Campbell Town will be a state of the art fuel, convenience store and restaurant, providing improved vehicle access, on site parking and clean, modern wash room facilities” Mr. Molineux said. “There will also be eight jobs created during the construction and ten on-going jobs once complete and in full operation. When approved construction will start before the end of June this year and be completed before Christmas.
